Polished Concrete Solutions
High-Gloss Flooring
Modern, Refined Concrete Surfaces
Unfinished concrete is inherently porous, prone to staining, and constantly generates fine cement dust. Polished concrete solves these issues by mechanically grinding, densifying, and polishing the existing slab, rather than applying a superficial layer.
At Gotham Floor Systems, we use state-of-the-art planetary grinders and metal-bond and resin-bond diamond tooling to refine the surface. The result is a smooth, glass-like finish that is exceptionally hard, dust-proof, and incredibly easy to maintain.
Benefits of Polished Concrete
Polished concrete is rapidly becoming the premier choice for modern architects, homeowners, and businesses alike due to its superior lifecycle value, sustainability, and high performance.
Extreme Wear Resistance
Unlike vinyl tiles, carpet, or paints, polished concrete will not peel, scratch, flake, or wear out over time. It stands up to heavy machinery, high foot traffic, and forklift tires with ease.
Cost-Efficient & Low Care
By eliminating the need for periodic waxing, stripping, or replacing topical floor coverings, polished concrete offers the lowest lifecycle cost of any flooring system. Routine maintenance requires only dust mopping and damp mopping.
Sustainable & VOC Free
As a LEED-compliant flooring solution, polished concrete uses the existing slab as the finished floor, saving raw materials. The mechanical refinement uses zero hazardous chemicals or VOCs, ensuring optimal indoor air quality.
Levels of Polishing Sheen
Matte / Satin (Level 1-2)
A soft, natural, low-luster finish. Highlights the natural character of the concrete without a sharp reflection. Ideal for industrial warehouses, outdoor entries, and rustic interiors.
Semi-Gloss (Level 3)
A higher light reflectivity that begins to project images. The most popular selection for office hallways, commercial retail shops, and residential living spaces.
High-Gloss / Mirror (Level 4)
A stunning, glass-like finish that reflects overhead lights and objects sharply. Perfect for high-end luxury residential spaces, automobile showrooms, and premium retail hubs.
How Chemical Densification Works
Polished concrete is not simply ground down; it is chemically hardened from within. During the diamond grinding process, we apply a liquid chemical densifier (sodium or lithium silicate). This densifier penetrates deep into the concrete pores and reacts with the free calcium hydroxide present in the cement paste. This reaction creates calcium silicate hydrate (CSH), the same crystalline structure that gives concrete its strength. By filling the microscopic voids, the surface is permanently hardened, dust-proofed, and rendered highly resistant to moisture and stains.
